Skirting the issue ... reworking a 90s grunge floral midi

I loved the deep aqua floral design fabric of this vintage 90s grunge midi skirt, but the skirt had seen better days so was destined for reworking.  On the plus side it had some nice tucks running round the hemline so I didn't want to cut those off when shortening.  As the original waist elastic had perished I decided to shorten from the waistline.  I used the fabric which I cut away to make a wide sash belt which I think gives a nice finish to the skirt.  Rather than use belt loops to secure this, I worked two buttonholes in the sash belt on the centre back (now super easy peasy with my lovely new Pfaff!) & then stitched the original buttons onto the back of the skirt.  Really pleased how this looks, and the sash can easily be used as a hair tie as well!  I put the skirt onto the mannequin who was still wearing a vintage 50s net petticoat from an earlier photo session & really liked the look of the net below the skirt.  More net petticoats on my vintage shopping list!
