Vintage fancy dress & why I never grew up to look like Keira Knightley

Don't know about you guys but I often find that my vintage journey goes in phases - I will find various "linked" items during a particular few vintage shopping trips & ebay/etsy/amazon trawling sessions.  The current "phase" is for vintage fancy dress.  Have an amazon purchase of a 20s fancy dress costume book winging its way to me from the States; a couple of vintage 30s fancy dress costume catalogues amongst recent finds; a 70s craft book bought recently has a great practical section on fancy dress making - scans of some of these below.  Amongst my photo collection is the above photo of my great grandmother, Granny Oakford, dressed as an old man in a village fancy dress parade, I would think in the 30s.  I was looking at this photo & another below (Granny O. is the little figure peeping out on the left) & got to thinking, so that's why I never grew up to look like Keira Knightley!  Those of you who read my blog will know I dream of looking like the divine KK stepping out of that fountain in Atonement with a figure & stature to suit the elegant, fluid shapes of 1930s fashions.  Ho hum!
